Best time to Visit Kudremukh: Although you can visit this place anytime during the year, it is ideal to visit between winter and summer – Sept/Oct to Feb when the climate is pleasant. Please plan your trip after checking with local Resort or Home stay’s because weather is not predictable in the western ghats.

How to reach Kudremukh from Bangalore?

  • By car: it takes around 7 hours to reach Kudremukh.
  • By bus: There are also no direct buses from Bangalore. The nearest major town is Kalasa, which is situated 22 kms away from Kudremukh. Bus services from Bangalore are available every night to reach Kalasa, and you could take the local transport from there to reach Kudremukh.
  • By train: The nearest railway station is Mangalore, which is 100 kms away from Kudremukh; there are no direct train routes available.

  • Kudremukh translates to the Horse face. This name was derived from the fact that the peak is shaped like a horse’s face.
  • One of the peaks here is called the Varaha Parvatha, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. It is situated at the height of 1458 meters above the sea level, and it the source to the rivers such as Tunga, Badra, and Nethravati.
  • Kudremukh is also famous for its abundant iron ores

Travel guide: Kudremukh has a restriction of allowing only 50 trekkers per day. However, if you are unable to get permission to trek on that day of your visit, there are equally exciting treks around that mountain range.  If you are going on a bike trip from Bangalore, you can try to explore the Kurinjal peak, which is also in the Kudremukh mountain range with similar trek experience. It will be more comfortable for you to make adjustments to your plan, based on the circumstances there, when you are taking a bike trip.
